As students at the United States Navy's elite fighter weapons school compete to be best in the class, one daring young pilot learns a few things from a civilian instructor that are not taught in the classroom.
In 1986 the US Naval Aviation program experienced a 500% spike in enrolments, this was down to one movie, Top Gun. A great film that made the song 'Danger Zone' and Beach Volleyball forever entwined.
Comedian Rob Hunter writes:
"In 1986 a movie perfectly encapsulated an era, combining Tom Cruise, excitement, drama and an irrational fear of foreigners to create one of the greatest action films of all time. With all of these things still hugely popular today, here is a look back at the 80s classic Top Gun... Still hugely popular today and with a sequel long-rumoured (and now confirmed!) to be in the works, the movie is not without detractors, with many pointing out its technical inaccuracies, stilted dialogue and the weird ‘front tooth in the middle of his mouth’ thing Tom Cruise had going on back in the day.
"Yet, for most fans it is a fun, spine-tingling film full of memorable moments, exciting action, and a brilliant sound track featuring one of the greatest movie theme songs of all time.
"Inspiring multiple generations of people to join the Navy, appreciate Kenny Loggins, learn from their mistakes and become better humans, or at the very least sit on a couch and watch a film about this stuff, Top Gun remains an 80s classic."
